Baby Animals: Forest Friends

This is the final installment of the baby animal graphghan patterns.  I can't decide which group of blocks is my favorite but do I love these forest animals.  The bear is on my future project list to rewrite as a c2c pattern for a baby blanket along with the sheep from the farm animal set and the monkey from the jungle set.  Don't you think they would be adorable in c2c?

Please subscribe to my blog, leave a comment, pin this on Pinterest or send me an email so that I can determine if there is interest in future free graphghan designs or if you would like to see some of these blocks translated to c2c.

If you missed the previous animals, you can grab them here: Farm Friends, Jungle Buddies or download all 24 blocks here.

The links for each of the forest animals are below.  Each block is 60 x 60 stitches, written for single crochet.  Click through the presentation to find the link for each of the patterns.  (Owl, fox, raccoon, rabbit, deer, frog, hedgehog and bear.)

Free Graphghan Block - Hummingbird

One of the things that I love about spring and summer is watching the birds come visit our flowers, birdfeeder, and birdbath.  I especially like seeing the little hummers buzzing around the flowers.  Do you get hummingbirds in your yard?

This adorable pattern is 64 x 64 written for single crochet.  It would be adorable as a pillow on a porch or in a sunroom. I am in the process of making a block this size that I plan on turning into a tote bag.

If you download a copy please leave a comment below or drop me an email.  I heard recently from one of my subscribers that commenting isn't working on this blog.  While I"m investigating why, feel free to email me instead.

Free Graphghan Block - Lighthouse

August 7th is National Lighthouse Day!  To celebrate, I'm giving away this fun lighthouse graphghan square.  It measures 40x40 stitches and is written for single crochet.

"It was on this day in 1789, that Congress approved an Act for the establishment and support of lighthouse, beacons, buoys and public piers."  Read the full article: American Lighthouse Foundation.

Cottage Windows Dishcloth

Happy first day of August!

Picture yourself gazing out the window of a cozy beach cottage at the shifting sand along the beach.  That's what I see when I look at this pretty dishcloth.

This pattern is a spin-off from the Shifting Sands Dishcloth.  When I was creating the prototype for Shifting Sands, I wondered if it would work out to add a strip of single crocheted stitches down the middle and two rows of single crochet across the center rows.  I was hoping that it would look like a four paned window.  It does!

Since I started my designing journey at the beginning of the year, I have been flooded with ideas to try.  The ideas come faster than I can create test projects.  Right now I have a hat, two blankets and a new stitch technique in the works plus a notebook full of potential projects.

Supplies:
Cotton yarn
Hook size H
Scissors
Yarn needle

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
hdc = half double crochet
hk = hook

Note: ch 1 is a turning chain and does not count as a stitch.

Pattern:
Ch 27
Row 1: sc in 2nd st from hk, sc across (26 stitches)
Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc in each st across (26 stitches)
Row 3-12: ch 1, turn, sc in first two st [hdc in next, sl st in next, repeat 5 times] sc in next 2 s [hdc in next, sl st in next, repeat 5 times]  sc in last 2 st (26 stitches)
Rows 13-14: repeat row 2
Rows 15-24: repeat row 3
Rows 25-26: repeat row 2
