Dolly and Me Ear Warmers

We are a little obsessed at the moment with 18" dolls at my house.  I've been sewing and crocheting for my granddaughter's doll, Petunia.  Right after she got the doll in October, I made matching ear warmers for them.  I just made a second set as a surprise for Christmas.

These are quick to make and a beginner-friendly pattern.  There are notes below the pattern to customize this pattern for any fun stitch.

Dolly & Me Ear Warmers

Supplies:

Yarn - weight 4
Hook size H
Yarn needle
Scissors

Doll Ear Warmer:

Note: ch 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch.

Ch 11

Row 1: sc in the 2nd st from the hk, sc across

Row 2: ch 1, turn, hdc in the 1st st, sl-st in next.  Repeat alternating hdc, sl-st across ending with sl-st.

Repeat row 2 until desired length.

Finishing: Join using your preferred method.  I used a sl-st to join the ends.

Child Ear Warmer:

Note: ch 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch.

Ch 19

Row 1: sc in the 2nd st from the hk, sc across

Row 2: ch 1, turn, hdc in the 1st st, sl-st in next.

Repeat alternating hdc, sl-st across ending with sl-st.
Repeat row 2 until desired length.

Finishing: Join using your preferred method.  I used a sl-st to join the ends.



Design notes:

• We have a My Life As doll.  The doll ear warmer was 54 rows long. 
• The child-sized ear warmer was 80 rows.  
• Adjust the length of your ear warmer to fit your doll & child. 
• Any fun textured stitch would work for the ear warmers.  
• For the doll, start with 9-12 ch and for the child-size, start with 16-22 chains. 
• Optional: gather the center of the ear warmer using thread.  Add a decorative button or flower.

Herringbone Facial Rounds

Are you looking for a last-minute gift?  These facial rounds take less than 10 minutes each.  You could make a set of seven in under an hour.  It would make a great gift paired with some handmade soap, lotion or other spa items.

We are trying to be more eco-friendly at my house, so I am making items that can be reused instead of thrown away after one use.  These facial rounds are perfect removing make-up, applying toner or washing your face.

These are quick to make since there are only three rounds!  You can get approximately 12 out of one skein of cotton yarn.

I think they are pretty bundled in a set of six to eight, tied with a button and a bow.

Supplies:
Cotton yarn
Size H crochet hook
Yarn needle

Stitches:
ch=chain
dc = double crochet
sl-st = slip stitch
her-dc =  herringbone double crochet

I love the texture of the herringbone double crochet.  It has the height of a double crochet but because of the way it is crocheted, it is attached to the stitches next to it.  This makes a beautiful round with no gaps.

Herringbone Facial Rounds 

Note, ch2 in each round does not count as a stitch.

Ch 4, slip stitch to join.  Or use a magic circle.

Round 1: ch 2, 12 dc into the circle. sl-st to join(12 stitches)

R2: ch 2, 2 her-dc in each stitch, sl-st to join (24 stitches)

R3: ch 2, (2 her-dc in first, 1 her-dc in next) repeat around, sl-st to join(36 stitches)

Bind off and weave in the ends.

Pine Tree Dishcloth Graph

Are you looking for a fun dishcloth pattern?  This would be perfect for the Christmas season or for anyone with a woodsy "at the cabin" decor.  The tree could be embellished with decorations if desired.  For other dishcloths designed or tested by Grandma Duck, click here.

Stained Glass Hummingbird

Petunia Purse (18" Doll)

Petunia with her Favorite Purse

I'd like to introduce you to Petunia.  She joined our family this fall.  Since her arrival, I've been sewing and crocheting all sorts of clothing and accessories.  This is my first published crochet design for dolls.  I love how it turned out!

The purse is based on my most popular dishcloth pattern: Dreaming of Spring Dishcloth.  It has a pretty floral center.  Below you will find two options for the purse: one solid color and one three-color version.  I can't decide which I like the best.  I just know that Petunia is going to get purses to match all the fun outfits I've been designing and sewing.

Supplies:
Sinfonia Mercerized Cotton yarn weight 3, 20 yards. 
Crochet hook size G (4.0 mm)
Scissors
Yarn Needle

Stitches & Abbreviations:
ch = chain
sl-st = slip stitch
dc = double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
sc = single crochet
puff st = 3 double crochet puff stitch
ch-sp = chain space

Puff stitch directions: Yarn over, insert the hook in the stitch, yarn over, draw the yarn through the stitch, yarn over, and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook.  2 loops remain on the hook.  In the same stitch, repeat the preceding step twice. You should have 4 loops on your hook. Yarn over and draw the yarn through all 4 loops on the hook.  The puff stitch is complete.

Option 1 - Using 1 Color Yarn Throughout

Ch 4, sl-st in the last ch to make a circle.  (or start with a magic circle.)

Row 1: ch 2, 12 dc in circle. sl-st to join.   (12 stitches total)

Row 2: ch2, puff st in same stitch as the ch.  {chain 2, complete one puff st in the next stitch, repeat 11 times} sl-st to join. (12 puff stitches, 24 chains total)

Row 3:sl-st in next st, sl-st into first chain two space.  Chain 2, 3hdc in the chain space.  {4 DC in each chain space, repeat 11 times} Slip stitch to join.  (48 stitches total)

Make 2.  Weave in all the ends on the first.  Do not bind off after completing the last slip stitch on row 3 on the second side.  

Attaching the two sides:
Line up the front and back. sc through one st on both front and back, {sc through st on both front and back, repeat 30 times} (32 sc stitches) 

Make the strap:
ch 33, sc in 2nd ch from hook, {sc in next ch repeat 31 times} (32 stitches on the strap.)

Finishing: 
Single crochet around the opening and attached the strap.
sc in next st, sc around until you reach the other end of the opening.  Sc through strap and final stitch, turn purse, sc through strap and first stitch, sc around, sc through strap and final stitch.  Bind off.  

Option 2: Three Colors of Yarn

Color A: flower center 
Color B: flower petals
Color C: outside edge and strap

Using color A, ch four, sl-st in the last ch to make a circle.  (or start with a magic circle.)

Row 1: ch 2, 12 dc in circle. sl-st to join.   (12 stitches total) 

Switch to color B
Row 2: ch2, puff st in same stitch as the ch.  {chain 2, complete one puff st in the next stitch, repeat 11 times} sl-st to join. (12 puff stitches, 24 chains total)

Switch to color C
Row 3:sl-st in next st, sl-st into first chain two space.  Chain 2, 3hdc in the chain space.  {4 DC in each chain space, repeat 11 times} Slip stitch to join.  (48 stitches total)

Make 2.  Weave in all the ends on the first.  Do not bind off after completing the last slip stitch on row 3 on the second side.  

Attaching the two sides:
