Alphabet Blocks

I had so much fun designing this set of alphabet blocks!  I love nostalgic toys.

My original thought was that they would make darling baby or toddler washcloths, but there are so many other things you could do with these designs.  They could be made into a blanket, a play mat, or for teaching letters & colors.  I will also be making the set of numbers from zero to nine in the next few weeks.

Each block is 24x24.  Click on the name above each block to download the patterns.  The patterns include row by row instructions and full-color graphs.

Note - the letter P had an error in it.  The revised block is linked below.

    2. Thank you so much for sharing these with us. I'm making a learning blanket for my grandson. He is becoming a big brother for the first-time in Feb. I'm making this so he can teach his new brother colors shapes and alphabet and number. This is the only design that will work. I have joined Facebook. Thank you so much.

  3. What a fabulous collection of Alphabet Blocks! I definitely had a set of these when I was growing up and I made sure to find similar ones for my children too. The link you shared doesn't work for me, but maybe that's because it isn't live yet?

  4. The original pattern for the Letter P has been replaced. There was a small error in it.

  5. Is the pattern just to click on each letter individually? Thank you so much.

For my grandbaby 20+ years ago I used blocks around a picture frame - spelled out his name and date of birth. They never used it - so glad I took a picture for myself.

  7. Is each line separate so you go back to first and do each line that way ? So there is no going back and forth. Wasn’t sure what the (<<) (>>) were for

    1. << and >> indicate left to right and right to left. First you crochet in one direction and then you flip your work and crochet back. Please let me know if this answers your question. Thanks!

  8. I am having trouble finding the link. I have clicked on the free pattern link and there is no pattern just what’s above. I have clicked on every link in your statement also.

    1. It’s too early in the morning to figure the link out and I did. Sorry about that. Can’t wait to make these. I work in a preschool and these would make great pillows for Christmas.

  10. How does the reverse side look when you change colors?

    1. Hi there! It depends on what how you do your color changes. I like to do a bobbin of yarn for each color section unless I"m only moving the yarn over a few stitches. In that case, I will crochet over the unused yarn color to move it to where it is needed next. For example, if I was working the Letter A I would have a bobbin for the outside color, a bobbin for the background, a bobbin for the first leg of the A, a bobbin for the background color, a bobbin for the second leg of the A, a bobbin for the background color and a bobbin for the outside color. Alternatively, I would carry the yarn for the letter A back and forth under the background color. Please let me know if this makes sense.
      Happy Stitching!
